What the Dominican Republic adds on top of the salary, and where each rate comes from.
Rates apply to the base named in each line; capped lines stop growing above the ceiling. Engine assumptions: Contribution ceilings taken on the TSS national minimum wage of RD$23,223 a month, in force since 1 February 2026 = 23223; Christmas salary capped at five times the large-company minimum wage, RD$29,988 a month since 1 February 2026 = 29988; Occupational-risk insurance taken at 1.1%: the fixed 1% plus the minimum variable share of 0.1%, so the total below is a floor = 0.1; Profit sharing (article 223) is carried at zero because it depends on the provider's profit, so the total below is a floor = 0.
| Line | Employer rate | Base & ceiling | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Family health insurance (Seguro Familiar de Salud, SFS), employer shareOn the cotizable salary up to 10 national minimum wages, RD$232,230 a month since 1 February 2026 | 7.09% | Gross salary , capped at DOP 2,786,760 / yr The TSS answer to 'Cuales son los porcentajes de retencion y aporte de trabajador y empleadores?' gives the Seguro Familiar de Salud at 3.04% for the worker and 7.09% for the employer, and its ceilings table sets the SFS ceiling at 10 SMN, RD$232,230.00, effective 01/02/2026; the annual cap entered here is twelve times that. The TSS defines the cotizable salary as 'salario ordinario + comisiones + vacaciones por ley', so the Christmas salary is outside it. The ceiling sits about a third above the example salary and does not bind. | Tesoreria de la Seguridad Social2026-09-24 |
| Old-age, disability and survivors' pension (Seguro de Vejez, Discapacidad y Sobrevivencia), employer shareOn the cotizable salary up to 20 national minimum wages, RD$464,460 a month since 1 February 2026 | 7.10% | Gross salary , capped at DOP 5,573,520 / yr The TSS gives the Seguro de Vejez, Discapacidad y Sobrevivencia at 2.87% for the worker and 7.10% for the employer, with a ceiling of 20 SMN, RD$464,460.00, effective 01/02/2026. The 7.10% is the whole employer share: some payroll guides add a separate 0.4% for the Fondo de Solidaridad Social on top, which the TSS table does not. The ceiling is more than twice the example salary. | Tesoreria de la Seguridad Social2026-09-24 |
| Occupational risk insurance (Seguro de Riesgos Laborales, SRL)On the cotizable salary up to 4 national minimum wages, RD$92,892 a month since 1 February 2026; fixed 1% plus the minimum variable share of 0.1% | 1.10% | Gross salary , capped at DOP 1,114,704 / yr The TSS table: the worker pays nothing ('Lo cubre el empleador 100%'), and the employer pays '1% cuota fija mas un porciento variante de 0.10-0.30 dependiendo el factor de riesgo de la empresa establecido por IDOPPRIL'; the IDOPPRIL FAQ states the same two components. The ceiling is 4 SMN, RD$92,892.00, effective 01/02/2026, which binds at the example salary: the line comes to about 0.58% of gross rather than 1.1%. The variable share is the provider's, since the provider is the insured employer; this page carries the minimum, 0.1%. | Tesoreria de la Seguridad Social2026-09-24 |
| Vocational training levy (INFOTEP, Ley 116-80) | 1% | Gross salary Article 24 of Ley 116-80 finances the Instituto Nacional de Formacion Tecnico Profesional with 'el uno por ciento (1%) que sobre el monto total de las planillas de sueldos o salarios fijos que paguen mensualmente las empresas', and with a half per cent charged to the workers on their profit share and bonuses, withheld once a year. The TSS, which collects it, defines the INFOTEP salary as 'salario ordinario + comisiones', so there is no ceiling and the Christmas salary is outside the base. | Ley 116-80 que crea el INFOTEP, articulo 24 (text published by INFOTEP), with the TSS definition of the INFOTEP salary2026-09-24 |
| Christmas salary (salario de Navidad, article 219), capped at five minimum wagesOne twelfth of the year's ordinary salary, never more than five minimum wages: RD$149,940 at the large-company minimum of RD$29,988 | 8.33% | Gross salary , capped at DOP 1,799,280 / yr Article 219 of the Codigo de Trabajo: the employer pays in December 'la duodecima parte del salario ordinario devengado por el trabajador en el ano calendario', but 'en ningun caso el salario de Navidad sera mayor del monto de cinco salarios minimos legalmente establecido'. The cap is on the amount, so it is entered as a cap on the base of five minimum wages divided by one twelfth: 5 x RD$29,988 x 12 = RD$1,799,280 a year. At the example salary it binds, and the bonus comes to about 85% of one month's pay. It is due by 20 December (article 220), is free of income tax (article 222) and falls outside the TSS cotizable salary, so no contribution is charged on it. | Codigo de Trabajo (Ley 16-92) y normas complementarias, articulos 219-222 (Ministerio de Trabajo edition), with Resolucion CNS-01-2025, articulo tercero (large-company minimum from 1 February 2026)2026-09-24 |
| Profit sharing (participacion en los beneficios, article 223) not in total | — | Carried at zero and left out of the total because it cannot be read off a salary. Article 223 of the Codigo de Trabajo: every company shares 'el diez por ciento de las utilidades o beneficios netos anuales' among its indefinite-term workers, each worker's share capped at 45 days of ordinary salary under three years of service and 60 days from three years. It is paid 90 to 120 days after the financial year closes (article 224), and article 226 exempts free-zone companies and some agricultural and industrial ones. Under an employer of record the profit is the provider's; ask whether its fee already covers this line. | Codigo de Trabajo (Ley 16-92) y normas complementarias, articulos 223-226 (Ministerio de Trabajo edition)2026-09-24 |

EOR or your own entity
Fees scale with headcount. An entity does not.
In the Dominican Republic the employer carries a much larger share of social security than the worker: 7.09% for health and 7.10% for pensions against the worker's 3.04% and 2.87%, plus the whole of the occupational-risk insurance and 1% to INFOTEP. The TSS caps each branch at a multiple of its own national minimum wage, RD$23,223 since 1 February 2026, and at the example salary the occupational-risk ceiling of four minimum wages binds. The Christmas salary adds close to another month but is itself capped at five minimum wages, and it carries no contributions. Deel's Dominican page puts a start through its employer of record 'in as little as 3 days'. Two lines to ask any provider about in writing: its IDOPPRIL variable rate, between 0.1% and 0.3%, and how it handles the 10% profit share.
Fees grow with every hire; the charges line is owed under an entity too.
| Headcount | RemoFirst fees / yr | Borderless AI fees / yr | Statutory charges / yr |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $2,388 | $6,948 | $8,242 |
| 3 | $7,164 | $20,844 | $24,725 |
| 5 | $11,940 | $34,740 | $41,208 |
| 10 | $23,880 | $69,480 | $82,417 |
| 20 | $47,760 | $138,960 | $164,833 |
Statutory charges are owed either way; the provider fee is the only line an entity removes, against the cost of incorporating and running local payroll.

Questions people ask before booking a demo
- How much does an employer of record cost in the Dominican Republic?
- At least about 22.9% of gross on top of salary at the example salary: 7.09% health insurance, 7.10% pensions, occupational risk at about 0.6% once its ceiling applies, 1% INFOTEP, and a Christmas salary worth about 7.1% of the year's pay after its cap. On a US$36,000 salary that is at least about US$690 a month before the provider's fee, which the table on this page prices provider by provider.
- Why do some guides quote about 15.4% for Dominican employer contributions?
- Because 15.39% is 7.10% for pensions, 7.09% for health and a flat 1.2% for occupational risk, with no ceiling applied. The TSS sets that risk rate at 1% plus 0.1% to 0.3% depending on the employer's activity, and caps it at four national minimum wages, RD$92,892 a month. INFOTEP adds 1%, and the Christmas salary adds most of a month's pay on top.
- Is the Dominican Christmas salary a full thirteenth month?
- Not above a certain salary. Article 219 of the Codigo de Trabajo sets it at one twelfth of the year's ordinary salary but never more than five minimum wages. With the large-company minimum at RD$29,988 since February 2026, the cap is RD$149,940, about 85% of a month at the example salary. It is paid by 20 December, free of income tax and outside social security contributions.
- How many paid public holidays are there in the Dominican Republic?
- Twelve in 2026 on the Ministerio de Trabajo calendar. Ley 139-97 moves several of them to a Monday when they fall midweek, so in 2026 Epiphany is observed on 5 January, Labour Day on 4 May and Constitution Day on 9 November, while Independence Day and Good Friday never move. Restoration Day, 16 August, falls on a Sunday in 2026.
- What does it cost to end an employment contract in the Dominican Republic?
- Nothing in notice or severance during the first three months. After that, articles 76 and 80 of the Codigo de Trabajo set notice at 7, 14 or 28 days depending on service, and a cesantia of 6 or 13 days of salary in the first year, then 21 days per year of service up to five years and 23 days per year beyond.
